Day 1 - Commence Safari with Afro Trek Safaris Moremi Game Reserve
The safari departs from Maun at 0730 hrs , passing through
the village of Shorobe en route, heading for South Gate where we enter the Moremi Game Reserve.
The drive to South Gate normally takes two hours provided the drive has not been delayed by game
spotting on the way.
On arrival at South Gate, whilst the Professional Guide attends to the necessary paperwork
required for entry into the reserve, refreshments will be provided during this short break.
The journey continues through the Moremi Game Reserve, game spotting on the way, until our
designated camping ground is reached, about a two hour drive from South Gate.
Time to relax and stretch the legs, enjoy a leisurely lunch followed by a relaxation period
during which the professional guide will deliver a short briefing about the reserve and
other information regarding the safari, before commencing at around 1530 hrs an afternoon
game drive.
Return to camp for pre - dinner refreshments, take dinner under the Milky Way starlit skies and later
relax for a while around a blazing campfire listening to the calls of the hyenas and lions.
Guests interested in astronomy will be treated to one of the most expansive displays of
stars on earth, before retiring in cozy tents for the night and drifting off to the sounds of the wild.
Day 2 - Moremi Game Reserve
After an early morning light breakfast with ample tea and coffee just prior to sunrise , we
depart camp proceed to Dead Tree Island where the big cats are normally spotted as they
follow the herds of buffaloe and other game which roam this island .
The lagoon of Dead Tree Island is home to a large concentration of hippo's and offers an
excellent array of aquatic birdlife.
We return to camp late morning for brunch followed by a siesta coffee and tea plus snacks appear later in
the afternoon before we head off to explore again this prime game viewing area.Back to our campsite at
sunset where the evening will be spent around an open campfire exchanging stories with our professional
guide, enjoying a delicious dinner prepared by our camp chef, take a night drive, returning to camp and
then listening to the night sounds of Africa’s bush – truly, a feast for the senses, before settling into our tents and drifting off to the night sounds, a Moremi lullaby.
Day 3 - Depart Moremi Game Reserve for Savute in Chobe National Park
We leave Moremi and head off north to Savute which is located in the south western area of
Chobe National Park.
The road is heavy sand winding through mopane forest but the destination is well worth the drive. Savute
is home to many prides of lion and other predators such as wild dogs and leopard.
On arrival, the ground crew will erect camp, lunch is then taken and then we head of on an afternoon game
drive immersing ourselves in this awe inspiring wilderness.
We return to camp on sunset, enjoy a refreshing sundowner followed by a hearty dinner again under the
expansive displays of the Milky Way stars, our professional guide helping to identify various planets,
constellations and other celestial objects, before zipping into our comfortable, cosy tents for the night.
Day 4 - Savute Marsh and drive to Kasane
The early morning to be spent exploring this unique environment and magnificient Savute Marsh area.
The Savute Marsh is situated at the junction of the Savute Channel and the Mababe Depression which
was once a great lake and now remains dry for most of the year.
When the local rains break, then the game arrives in their thousands taking advantage of the new
rich grasses.This massive influx of game also attracts predators in the form of lions, leopards, cheetah,
wild dog and hyenas.
Savute is world famous for the carnivores, especially the lion prides that are present here.
After brunch, we commence our journey from Savute heading through Kachikau, Kavimba and Mabele
before arriving at Ngoma where we will pass through the gate into Chobe National Park.
We arrive in Kasane mid to late afternoon.
The game viewing routes chosen on the day by the Professional Guide may differ from the above.
When a high flood is experienced, as is happening this year, certain roads may be closed or impassable,
but our guides will endeavour to pass through the most interesting areas offering the best game viewing and scenic views available on the day.
