Often described as the most beautiful of all wildlife sanctuaries in Africa, Moremi Game Reserve covers almost a third of the entire Okavango Delta. Explore the diverse habitats where desert and delta support floodplains, pans, lagoons, channels, woodlands and forests, each offering unparalleled excitement and adventure.

In 1963 the wife of the late Batawana Chief Moremi the 3rd, developed the reserve in her late husband's honour. The Mpemp Game Reserve is the first wildlife reserve voluntarily set aside in Southern Africa by an African community on their own land had been established. In 1970 the Chief Moremi’s royal hunting grounds, Chief's Island was added with a further area to the north-east in 1991.

The Moremi Game Reserve Day Safari is undertaken in customised safari vehicles with rear mounted game viewing seats underneath a canvas canopy. You will be accompanied at all times by knowledgeable and experienced guides.

  • Your scheduled departure time from Maun is ± 0600hrs driving first to the South Gate to enter Moremi Game Reserve which extends over both wetland and dry country. Along the way an important mix of floodplain, forested island, lily covered lagoons with dense papyrus beds are visible. The sight of palm clusters and deep green mopane woodland add to this stunning scenery.
  • Because the lagoons and channels form a vital section of the Okavango Delta eco-system, sightings of bird and animal populations become more frequent as the day progresses. An abundance of plains game attracts many predators such as lion, leopard and cheetah not forgetting the elusive African wild dog.
  • On arrival at South Gate you can stretch your legs and enjoy a mini-breakfast. At the same time our professional guide will administer the relevant documents to enter the National Park. Later in the day lunch will be served at a convenient rest stop/vantage point.
  • Throughout your safari many opportunities will present themselves to game view, bird watch and photograph a wide variety of wildlife, many of them water-dependant. The prolific number of birdlife ranges from water birds to shy forest dwellers.
  • Elephants are numerous particularly in the dry season as are buffalo, giraffe, lion, leopard, cheetah, African wild dog, hyena, jackal and numerous species of antelope, large and small including the red lechwe. Our guides know all the wildlife hotspots but please remember sightings are never guaranteed.
The game viewing routes chosen on the day by the Professional Guide may vary between safaris. When a high flood is experienced, certain roads may be closed or impassable, but our guides will endeavour to pass through the most interesting areas offering the best game viewing and scenic views available on the day.
