In this expanse of the Kalahari Desert, one can be in harmony with the wilderness, a place that can surprise you as you are never sure what you are going to see. The Central Kalahari Desert is a place where you may feel small, a feeling that can actually be a wonderful experience and result in a kind of communion or fellowship with the untouched wilderness.
The Kalahari Desert, at the end of the rainy season, displays tens of thousands of wild flowers in many subtle shades of pinks, purples and yellows which open to meet the new day’s sun making the area a delight to explore.
Secretary birds are resident in this area, these birds pair for life, their massive wingspans resembling a 747 jumbo jet, or rather that should be stated the other way around!
Gemsbok may be viewed grazing, a memorable sight with their beautiful coats of dramatically contrasting grey, white and black streaks decorating their sleek bodies.
Jackal, which also couple for life, dig in the sand for mice, lizards and frogs, not forgetting the steenbok, another couple paired for life nibbling the delicate leaves from accessible tree branches.
